President Elect AMLO promises full legalization in Mexico

In 2017, Mexican President Peña-Nieto legalized cannabis for medical use. Mexico’s Health Department is currently finalizing regulations, before opening Mexico to cannabis imports. “The brands that enter this nascent industry early are in for a windfall when Mexico explodes early next year,” says Tim Sultan of CannaBiz International. Some industry experts have said that the market opportunity in Mexico is bigger than the markets in Canada & the U.S. put together.

Some of the details of the regulations include the method of consumption (e.g. some parts of the gov’t will only approve vape cartridges if they are used with batteries that don’t look like cigarettes), the distribution network (e.g. Mexico has 32,000 pharmacies with an existing distribution network for resale to patients), and the requirements to operate a cannabis business in Mexico.
